We have been using the Picasa software from Google to organize our pictures for a few years. It has simple image manipulations available and makes non-destructive edits to your pictures. This means that you can trim, resize, and apply other effects to your pictures without changing the original image file.

If you haven't used Picasa, and you're not totally satisfied with your current software, it is worth a try. It is also free, so I recommend trying it even you are satisfied with your current image editing software. You can read more about its features at the Picasa download site.
